Marine Mammals!

There is a large floating cage system just offshore of Coconut Island that is home to the Marine Mammal program. Because it is not connected to the island, it's not really a place that you can sneak by and peak at. The research done on these animals has something to do with sonar, that's about all I know.

Well, recently they had a an open house to introduce the new baby dolphin born earlier this year. Super cute little guy. Family's were invited so Tanner and I went and were joined by Liz's mom and dad, Stephanie and Jim since they happened to be in town.

The black thing with the white stuff on his back is a False Killer Whale and the white stuff is Desonex to guard against sunburn. Apparently this guy spends too much of his time close to the surface. More than he would in the wild anyway and the UV leads to skin cracking. He seemed jealous of all the attention the baby and the mom were getting.
